IR preheater | Amazon | Surface mount desoldering/rework | $100-$120 | medium |
Lots of banana plug cables, (red, black, other colors) | hooking stuff up, esp. test equipment | $1-2 each | medium
Lots of alligator clip cables | hooking up to equipment under test | $1-2 each | medium
BNC cables | hooking up test equipment, RF connections, etc. | $5-20 each | medium
Various plug adapters (bnc/banana/alligator) and BNC tees. | Hooking up equipment with different jacks | $2-10 | medium
head-mount magnifiers | National Jewelers Amazon | Visualizing surface mount and fine detail work. The model linked is a bit pricier than others, but it's solid and really comfortable and pleasant to use. The nice thing about it is you can keep it on, and look around it with peripheral vision to get to tools and stuff, without contantly flipping it up and down. I've tried a few of the $30 ones, and they all have some flaw: they either wear out, and start falling down on your nose after a while; don't fit quite right; or are very bulky. | $70 | medium |
Magnifying glass or lamps (not counting the microscope) | Visualizing assembly work and small assemblies | $20-100 | low
(qty 2) squeeze bottles | Amazon | Allow convenient application of deionized water to dampen soldering station sponges | $5-10 | consumable |

LogicPort LA1034 USB logic analyzer | Intronix | This is a really nice USB-based logic analyzer. This analyzer is a little more expensive than the 16-bit Salae analyzer, (which is $299), and stands out from the other analyzers in the price range such as the Salae units in several respects: (1) Has 36 channels (2) Samples upto 500 MHz (3) Adjustable logic levels (4) complete set of protocol decoders. | $389 | (Purchased 3/18/12 by DF) |
(Qty 2) 2x4, 3x4, or 3x6 ESD mats, perhaps a third for the middle bench. Good quality 2-layer rubber mats | Ebay | Protection of the work surface, ESD protection, good parts visibility. We are looking for the kind of mat with the self-healing heat-resistant blue or green silicone static dissipative top layer, and conductive black bottom layer. | $150 for 2 | (Purchased 2/7/13 by DF) |
Panavise 381 - vacuum base | Amazon | The vacuum base is important for positioning the vise anywhere on the bench during assembly. While the clamp-side vises can be helpful, they are limited for Electronics assembly, since they are limited to the perhiphery of the bench. The Vacuum base is the one we need. | (Donated) | (Donated by ????) |
sponges for soldering stations, metcal brand | Amazon | These must be dedicated soldering station sponges, which contain fewer ions, acids, and oxidizing agents than regular sponges. Critical for long tip life. | $41.00 | (purchased Feb 2013 by DF.) |
Metcal Talon tweezers | OKI International | Crucial for surface mount rework. For the metcal system. This one was on Ebay, and I picked it up for a great price. | $50 | (purchased Feb 2013 by DF) |
HP 8505a vector network analyzer | Yahoo Groups | For characterizing all sorts of RF circuits and devices up to 1.3 MHz. | (donated) | (Donated by DF) |
