Minutes
- Select proposed committee chair
Graham Bateman elected unanimously
- Discuss potential operational rules
All members concurred that mediations should be conducted in private. The mediators will never discuss what happened in the mediation, even if the mediation fails and the conflict gets escalated to a formal complaint. Current thinking is that two mediators will be involved in each mediation. With one of the mediators being select by both (all) parties to the conflict. The parties will select at least three mutually agreed upon choices to allow the committee to make a member available to account for potential conflicts in scheduling. The committee will probably appoint the second mediator itself, again based upon availability and the need to spread experience mediating among the members.
Unofficial operating rule of the mediation committee is "What happens in mediation, stays in mediation"
- Discuss training opportunity and needs
Walter mentioned that Adam Oas has a friend who is a local city councilman interested in creating a makerspace in his city who has experience training mediators. He may be willing to trade mediation training for training in how to create a makerspace. Graham is going to look into some additional options to find free mediation training for our members.
