Member Recognition and Complaints

Member recognition (above and beyond) and member complaints will be considered before other business. This will allow members that are interested or involved with either to leave without having to sit thru the entire meeting.

Consent Agenda

Newly proposed agenda items appear in the consent agenda. Any member present at the meeting may pull an item out of the consent agenda for discussion, at which point it goes under "New Business". If nobody objects to the solutions presented by the consent agenda, everything in the consent agenda passes by consensus. Items that have more than one proposed solution should be moved to the "New Business" section.

Any member may edit this wiki page and place an item on the agenda. However, discussion of agenda items should be done via the forums. The cut-off time for addition to or revision of all agenda items is 48 hours prior to the meeting.

Please note, agenda items (Consent, New, or Old) that request spending $200 or more must include a section on "Relevance to our tax exempt purpose".

A capital equipment form (listed at the bottom of the Finance forms list) is required for all equipment purchase or lease exceeding $1000 for which funds are requested from the Board in part or total, at least two weeks in advance of the board meeting.

DMS Dedicated Streaming Cart (Paul Wilson)

Problem: DMS needs an easy way to have our members stream and/or capture meetings and classes for online distribution.

Solution: Create a dedicated "Streaming Cart" with the appropriate hardware and software to allow members to stream meetings and/or classes, or to capture them to allow for later editing or distribution. Proposal document here: DMS Streaming Cart Proposal

There will be a demonstration of much of the listed hardware and software on September 9 between 8 and 10 pm in the Interactive Classroom or via Google Meet. Meeting ID: meet.google.com/mvy-fdyk-nmg Phone Numbers:  (‪US‬) +1 304-934-3672‬  PIN: ‪989 778 965#‬

Relevance: Allows members, SIGs, Committees, and the Board easier access to needed hardware and software to distribute demonstrations, classes, and meetings to online viewers.

New Larg(er) Format Printer Purchase (Judy Kriehn on behalf of Wide-Format SIG)

Problem: Rich Meyer was kind enough to gift the Wide-Format SIG with two large-format HP printers he acquired in an auction. (The smaller of the two is in use by Rich for Expansion.) We were excited. We bought supplies and parts. However, with the limited skills/knowledge/time the SIG shared, they were unable to get the printer running reliably enough to turn the membership loose on it.

Solution: After a lot of research, the SIG recommended to the Creative Arts Committee on 02/17/2020 that we purchase a 24" HP DesignJet as well as the appropriate supplies to go with it. Request passed at Creative Arts Committee level unanimously with 14 voters present.

  • Printer (at time of proposal/vote). $3245
  • Ink (at time of proposal/vote) $1000
  • Committee requests board approval of of up to $4500 for the purchase

Relevance: While the demand isn't great at the moment, it is there. And has been there since the ones that finally left the building last fall went over the rainbow-colored-inkjet-printer-bridge several years ago. Approving the purchase now will allow the SIG to get familiar with the equipment before "in-person" demand at the space ramps up.

(And please excuse the weird, wordy posting. This is just the way Judy's brain rolls. Deal...)

Emergency Items

Problem:

There are many members with aging vision – which means dark conditions make it difficult to work safely and comfortably. I, Judy Kriehn, Chairman of Creative Arts and observer of many things, wandered around the original 104 suite looking for dead or dying fluorescent light fixtures. Spaces observed included: Interactive Classroom, Lecture Hall, Automotive/Motorsports, the former Machine Shop area, the hallway outside of Interactive, Creative Arts (both main studio and Sewing Room), Laser and Metal Shop.

This adds up to 12 dead fixtures  (or 48 bulbs), nine dying fixtures (or 36 bulbs), and with the addition of the 10 remaining old fixtures spread between Creative Arts and Metal (two committees who have wished for better lighting for some time), that adds up to 124 bulbs.

Solution:

Budget $1200 for purchase of additional tombstones and LED T8 bulbs to retrofit these 31 fixtures to LED.

Relevance:

Increase safety with better lighting, possibly save a bit on power with higher-efficiency lights.
