So, you need to make a gear? The first thing is to take the basic information you know, such as the number of teeth for the gear and perform some calculations that are needed in order to use the space's machine tools to actually cut a gear. This class will cover the terminology, sources of key information, and we will go through two example sets of calculations for two specific gears. At the end of the class you should have a grasp of the following terms as well as understanding how to calculate their values for a specific gear

Diametric pitch, pitch diameter, gear blank diameter, gear spacing, tooth depth, what division plate to use, how many divisions to turn for each tooth and pressure angle.

Class given on July 15, 2015, 7:00p-9:00p
